In
1943 - three R-2 electrics from New York City were transferred to
the DRT
to help with the heavier trains. 3 more added later.. Units
302, 303, 304, 305, 306
and 310. Work on ventilation for the tunnel to allow diesels to
operate started in June 1953 and all Detroit River
Tunnel electric service ended on December 29, 1953. At the time of
the electric division being shutdown - the nine remaining R electrics
were stored at Livernois yard until scrapped in 1956.
