BOXCARS MODIFIED FOR SPECIAL SERVICE
NOTES:
OVER THE YEARS NEW YORK CENTRAL MODIFIED RANDOM BOXCARS AND PLACED THEM INTO SPECIAL SERVICE FOR EITHER A SPECIFIC CUSTOMER OR A SPECIFIC TYPE OF COMMODITY AND IN MOST CASES, GAVE THESE CARS A SPECIAL SERIES OF NUMBERS.
CARS IN SPECIAL SERVICE CAN VERY WITHIN EACH GROUP AND SOME GROUPS MAY OVERLAP ANOTHER GROUP OF CARS WHICH MAY BE DIFFERENT IN SIZE AND SERVICE. CARS WITHIN A GROUP MAY HAVE ORIGINATED FROM DIFFERENT LOTS AND MAY BE MIXED THROUGH THE GROUP IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER. CARS MAY HAVE BEEN ADDED OR REMOVED FROM SPECIAL SERVICE AS NEEDED. WHEN REMOVED FROM SPECIAL SERVICE, CARS MAY BE BEEN RENUMBERED BACK TO THEIR ORIGINAL NUMBER, ASSIGNED A DIFFERENT NUMBER ( IF ASSIGNED TO A DIFFERENT SERVICE) OR SCRAPPED. CARS MAY HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM SPECIAL SERVICE AND NOT RENUMBERED. SPECIFIC ASSIGNMENT MAY CHANGE DURING THE CARS SERVICE LIFE.
