Some very nice pics of the old CSR bridge at Welland (Bridge #15); just one thing, you have it marked as a "Drawbridge", however, #15 is a "Swingbridge"

This site has brought back a lot of good memories! I was employed by Penn Central at the Windsor Yard as a car control clerk on Dec 3, 1973, just barely out of high school (June 1973). In July 1976, I transferred to St Thomas, where I worked as Car Control Clerk (yard office, freight billing, industrial car control), Crew Dispatcher, Stores Truck Driver and Accounting clerk (Joint Facilities billing) It's too bad that the current government of Canada (PC) had allowed the sale of the CASO to the CN/CP. If private enterprise had been allowed to purchase the properties, CASO would have been quite a busy line!
Presently, I'm working on building a route and scenario's for the Auran Trainz program based on my experiences with PC/CR. This site has a lot of valuable information that I will peruse to make my project as realistic as possible!

Just visited Canada Southern Guelph Jct yard last week with Terry Shortt. I remember seeing a Michigan Central steam engine in early '50s nr Hagersville (I think) We'd go from Hamilton to Port Dover on L.Erie for a swim and a 12" hot dog at the Arbour. I used to see 6400 and 6020 screaming out of Hamilton towards Thorold in the '50s too and have some colour slides. Our neighbour on Airdrie Ave. was a Mr. Lindsay who was an engineer on the CNR. I was in my glory when the green and blacks went by Woodward Ave, the ground shaking and all as I held my 35mm camera. It was great to bicycle out to Bayview, (a great place to watch the choo choos) sit on the embankment and watch them go by. I especially liked the 'bullet nose bettys' (6060s). I remember the NYC E8 I think coming into east Hamilton (Rosedale) on the TH&B; oh yes! must say, followed #51 all over east Hamilton abt 1950, switchers, they didn't go too fast. Hamilton was a great place for a kid to watch the trains. - Anyone ever hear of the Great Falls and Canada Railway? It was built by the Galt family from Lethbridge to Great Falls, Montana. more at my web site, click on the 'Mountie' -GTP-

This is a great site for fans of the Southwestern Ontario railroad scene. It's an area that's too often overlooked by Canadian and American modellers. Terry Link has done us all a great service with this fund of information.

I found your sight by accident and love the historic info. I never saw the NYC in Canada, but watched the trains fly through my home town south of Buffalo in the 1960's. Great memories.... thanks for bringing them back.

Great sight,i grew up and am still living at the family farm outside of Tillsonburg. The CASO passes along our property, and as a kid growing up, i watched the chessie/CSX,and CN trains pass by our place. We had the farm since 1943 and my father also grew up watching the NYC pass by, so seeing this sight brings back alot of memories from my childhood, so every time i look at that empty roadbed, i just remember what it use to be like 15 years ago. This inspired me to work for Ontario Southland Railway in Tillsonburg, to try and keep up what railroads are left in my town.

What a gold mine of detailed information about the Canadian Southern!
I am looking at developing a model railway based on SW Ontario operations. I had wanted to integrate some L&PS, CP and TH&B... now I can add in the NYC too!
The amount of time and effort that has been spent is clearly visible on your website.
Thanks very much, Grant.

Terry I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy this website. I find it a real resource, especially since I never saw either CASO or NYC in southern Ontario. Yet they have grown into a larger and larger part of my modeling, thanks to this kind of information. Thank you

Terrific site. The fellow waving at the NYCentral train in Hagersville is my Dad. Frank grew up in LaSalette, Ont. He and several of his brothers were career railwaymen. Dad worked in Hagersville, Welland and E & O between 1939 and 1973 as an operator, telegrapher, leverman, and travelling agent. I can smell the creosote and hear the train 'hit the bell' when looking at the interior photos of the towers.

Just wanted to say hello, and the train BDC from December 31 1973 C&O. My father was a engineer for the C&O and I have two pictures of that engine with me and my brother and sister on it in 1978! Sort of cool. I saw it on this site. Also have two from 65 with a GP9 with my dad and brother on it.
