At
this time, you can only search text pages and the thousands of
images on the site.
On
the very large pages, such as the NYC freight and passenger roster,
it is suggested that you use the CTRL F feature of your browser to
search on the individual page if you are looking for something
specific. The new SEARCH option will locate items within the roster
pages and highlight the matches, however due to the size of the page,
you may need to scroll through the page to find all instances. This
is where the CTRL F search on the page will make it easier to find
the matches.
The employee and public timetables along with the Headlight pages
cannot be searched at this time. In order to make these pages
searchable, I would need to convert them to pdf files, but they would
need to be rescanned at a higher resolution in order to make them
searchable. I have tested a number of programs to do this and so far
I've only found one that will work properly on nearly ever type of
document I have access to. SO, I need to hear from you if you are a
regular visitor to the site and use any of the NYC documents (
Headlight magazines, Employee or Public timetables or any other NYC
printed documents ). If you would like to be able to be able to
search these documents via pdf files (instead of the current low
resolution jpg files ) - please email me to express your interest. It
will take a considerable amount of time to rescan all of the
documents on the website and have them converted so they are
searchable. Also - as a PDF file - I would scan each item into a
single pdf file - which in the case of some of the 1940-1950 era
timetables - would mean a single timetable would be a file in the
40-60mb range. Email me at caso1 @ canadasouthern.com
