Derailment Report - August 17, 1967 - Montrose

 

At 450am date, Montrose Yard engine 7440 engineer Connor Conductor Rutherford, brakemen Beck and Sloan derailed two empty cars on eastbound switching lead when pulling off No.2 track. XM-2 had left switch lined for roundhouse and apparently yard engine ran thru switch, then pulled in the opposite direction derailing the two cars. MDAX 315 rerailed at 730am R&L 3&4. MDAX 139 rerailed at 1010AM, R&L 3&4. Two turned rails and switch made OK at 1030am. C&O Westbound 3527 was ordered for 500am at Montrose and held account engines blocked in by derailment. Delay 5 hours.
